StoryCorps & Do It Yourself Interviews

Aug 10, 2010

StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to provide Americans with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of their lives. Members of StoryCorp travel across the country in their mobile interviewing booth and invite people to be citizen journalists and interview a friend, family member, or loved one.  They also have semi-permanent recording booths in New York City, San Francisco, and Atlanta.

If you can make it to one of their recording sites, your interviews are archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. And sometimes they edit and post interviews on their website, or even turn them into animated shorts.

Even if you can't make it one of their recordings, StoryCorps has some great guides and resources on their website for recording your own interviews, including a helpful Question Generator.  All this can be found on their site at http://storycorps.org/diy.
